Choosing the Right Modern Sofa or Sectional

When you start perusing Portland neighborhoods, finding the perfect sofa for your home is probably the last thing on your mind. You’re likely thinking about home size, age, and costs.  You’ll also want to look into school districts, proximity to work, and area amenities.

Once homeowners move into their Portland modern homes, they’ll want comfortable seating for use by their family and guests. There are a number of factors you’ll want to consider when choosing the right modern sofa or sectional.

Take Measurements

Above all else, your furniture must be functional.  First and foremost, this means your sofa has to fit in your home. You not only need to measure the room you want the furniture to go in, but also the pathway to get furniture into your home. If you can’t fit it through the door, down the hall, or up the stairs, then it doesn’t matter if it will fit in the room.

In this sense, a sectional sofa could be preferable.  You can separate it into smaller sections for the purposes of transport and moving. In addition, you could not only reassemble it, but split it into a variety of configurations for use in your home.

Consider Usage

Before you choose sofas or sectionals suitable for Portland lofts or condos, you want to make sure they will suit your needs. If you entertain frequently then having a larger sofa or sectional is obviously preferable.  At the very least, you want enough seating to accommodate the members of your household.

You should also think about the level of wear and tear your couch will go through, as well as the amount of care and maintenance it will need. This will help you to select appropriate textiles for your usage, whether you choose resilient weaves or leather, for example.

Style and Aesthetics

Finding the right size, configuration, and materials for your sofa is a good start.  However, you also need to think about how your furniture will fit with the style of your home, the style of your other furnishings, and your overall aesthetic. Just because a piece fits in your space doesn’t mean it’s right for your decor.

Comfort

No matter how well a sofa or sectional fits inside Portland condos and matches the decor, you’re not going to get much use of out of it if it’s uncomfortable. So bring your loved ones shopping and put some butts in seats. The perfect sofa will be attractive, appropriately sized, and so comfortable as to be sigh-inducing when you sink into it.
