Mid Century Modern Home Tour in Portland, Oregon

by | May 6, 2019 | Living Urban

Every year the people at Restore Oregon put on a wonderful tour of homes as part of their Mid-Century Modern Design Series. The tour pays homage to my favorite style of architecture.  The clean lines and forward thinking design is truly remarkable. A Mid Century Modern Home in Portland is hard to come by, however their popularity is growing rapidly as more aficionados restore these gems.

When Does the Restore Oregon Tour Take Place?

The event usually takes place in May and consists of a driving tour to several staged homes.  The homes are selected by the Restore Oregon from entries that families send in.  It is awesome to see the community embrace the architecture and design and help to educate new lovers of the genre.   None of this would be possible without the families who so graciously open their homes for the tour. This isn’t a marketing event like the Street of Dreams or the Ultimate Open House, this is real people opening their homes for the love of design.

Where Are All The Homes Located?

Each year the tour travels to different locations. Restore Oregon prints maps for the event so attendees know where to go.  The homes can be all over the city from Oak Hills to NE Portland.  The maps are sold for a nominal fee and proceeds go to support a local non profit. Typically refreshments are served at an exclusive after party and this is a great time to socialize with others who have a passion for Modern Architecture. Often at the tour will have a round table discussion where you’ll meet architects, designers and builder’s who can answer questions and give ideas for your next project.
