Can Portland Modern Homes Be Affordable?

by | Mar 11, 2014 | Living Urban

Who doesn’t love to feast their eyes on the growing array of spectacular Portland modern homes on the market today? Unfortunately, many are either out of reach of most budgets or too small and quirky for practical living.  Good news: More builders are offering sustainable and modern homes that won’t completely break the bank or catapult you completely out of the mainstream.

Builder Modern NW

One of those builder’s is Modern NW Inc, who has an inventory of New Homes for folks who want green but don’t have a lot of it to spend.  One of these homes, in the North Portland Neighborhood of University Park, just oozes modern style.  And offered around $300k it fits that First Time Home Buyer budget.  H. Husdon Homes is another builder that is trying to fill this demand and they wrote a piece on keeping modern sustainable homes affordable.   The piece is full of ideas to trim the fat and stay on budget.

Style Right Out Of Dwell

From Italian style cabinetry to tiger wood floors these homes really don’t feel like they should be affordable.  The high-end style continues with slab counters, mosaic tile-work and sophisticated contemporary lighting.  I think my favorite feature of these homes is the use of tongue and groove siding and the contemporary fencing just takes the design to a whole new level.  A level not typically found in the entry market.  For more details about Modern NW Inc’s homes and others like it follow the link below.
